WHAT WE'RE GONNA TALK

Just like in a cafe, we talk about everything. Nothing heavy. Just talk over a cup of coffee.

BY FOCUSING IN READING BOOKS MAKES ME LESS BUSY

Six months ago, I found myself drowning in a flood of easy information. The internet—and all the lovely things on it, things like Wikipedia, Twitter, podcasts, the New Yorker, email, TED Talks, Facebook, Youtube, Buzzfeed occasionally, and yes, even the Harvard Business Review—provide unlimited sources of delight at the touch of a finger.

A LITTLE JOLT OF ELECTRICITY WILL BOOST PEOPLE'S CREATIVITY

ShutterstuckNeed some creative, out-of-the box ideas? Try adding a little jolt to your next brainstorming session.

Researchers from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill have found that stimulating the brain with electrical impulses boosts creativity. The impulses, researchers say, activated specific brain waves associated with originative thinking, and people who were buzzed scored significantly higher on a test of creative thought.

Time to kiss writer’s block goodbye.

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN CREATIVITY AND MESSY ROOM

The Psychology Behind Messy Rooms: Why The Most Creative People Flourish In Clutter
All our lives, we’ve been told to “be organized.” Organization has always been pegged as a direct key to success.

Whether at home, school or in your bunk at camp, organization is something that has been instilled in everyone pretty much from birth. On the other hand, being messy has been equally condemned and made to be a quick path to failure. And, honestly, no rebuttal could say otherwise.

NEGATIVE MIND WILL DESTROY YOUR LIFE

A day ago we placed this quote on our fan page.

It surprised us the overwhelming response we’ve got to this.

Well, perhaps we all need to remind ourselves on our thoughts on a continues basis.

ROBIN WILLIAMS: DEPRESSION OR BIPOLAR DISORDER?

When a person chooses suicide, it’s hard to accept that choice.

Comedian and award-winning actor Robin Williams apparently made that choice earlier this morning. Robin Williams has long suspected to be a sufferer of either depression or bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is a mental illness where the person fluctuates between episodes of extreme energy, focus and productivity (mania) and severe depression. Apparently, he was in one of the episodes of depression when he took his own life.

SOMETIMES WE NEED TO HIT THE RESET BUTTON IN OUR BRAIN

Every day we’re assaulted with facts, pseudofacts, news feeds and jibber-jabber, coming from all directions. According to a 2011 study, on a typical day, we take in the equivalent of about 174 newspapers’ worth of information, five times as much as we did in 1986. As the world’s 21,274 television stations produce some 85,000 hours of original programming every day (by 2003 figures), we watch an average of five hours of television per day. For every hour of YouTube video you watch, there are 5,999 hours of new video just posted!

MATHEMATICAL EQUATION AS FORMULA FOR HAPPINESS (video)

What makes people happy? Finding a definitive answer to this question could certainly make someone very rich (butwhether that would in turn make them happy is another matter). The problem is that happiness is especially slippery. While we know much about the consequences of happiness – that it can improve our health and well-being and how we get on in the world – much less in known about its causes, let alone how to guarantee its appearance.

Making happiness a goal, for example, often has counter-productive consequences that ultimately lead to less happiness overall. Finding happiness is, for many, akin to divining water: when we do find it we are often at a loss to explain how it happened.

ROBIN WILLIAMS COMMITTED SUICIDE BY HANGING HIMSELF

STRUGGLING with depression, Robin Williams was found dead by his personal assistant after knocks on the door of his bedroom went unanswered.

His wife likely was at their San Francisco home at the time but was unaware of his death, Marin County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Keith Boyd said.

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE YOUR LIFE HARDER

“Life is not complex.  We are complex.  Life is simple, and the simple thing is the right thing.” (Oscar Wilde)

When we were young life was easier, right?  I know sometimes it seems that way.  But the truth is life still is easy.  It always will be.  The only difference is we’re older, and the older we get, the harder we make things for ourselves.

You see, when we were young we saw the world through simple, hopeful eyes.  We knew what we wanted and we had no biases or concealed agendas.  We liked people who smiled.  We avoided people who frowned.  We ate when we were hungry, drank when we were thirsty, and slept when we were tired.

WHY WE SHOULD EXERCISE EVERYDAY

I know a lot of people with commitment issues, and I'm not talking even talking about relationships. Many people have trouble committing to their own health.

ONE HOUR TIME FOR KID TO PLAY WITH THEIR VIDEO GAMES

Playing video games for less than an hour a day can have a positive influence on kids' mental health, a new study suggests.

POSING CAN BOOST OUR CONFIDENCE (video)

Amy Cuddy demonstrates a classic power pose, used my humans and chimps alike—spreading your arms wide to appear more powerful. Photo: James Duncan DavidsonThere’s one very important thing that everyone should do before heading into a JOB INTERVIEW, giving a big speech or attempting an athletic feat. According to Amy Cuddy, a social psychologist at Harvard Business School, everyone should spend two minutes power posing. What, you ask, is power posing? It is adopting the stances associated with confidence, power and achievement — chest lifted, head held high, arms either up or propped on the hips.

STOP YOUR WORRIES IN 9 WAYS

stop worrying

Corrie ten Boom once said, "Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength."

INDEED, numerous studies have shown that worry not only puts a strain on our mental health, but on our physical health, too. While worry in and of itself is not bad -- it spurs us into action, after all -- too much of it can lead to anxiety, which can have a lasting impact on health and happiness. For instance, RESEARCH has shown that anxiety can take a toll on sleep, tax your immune system, raise your risk of post-traumatic stress disorder, and even affect your risk of dying from disease.

A NEW LOGO FOR ADIDAS

Based in Frankfurt, Germany, BRAND DESIGNER Oğuzhan Öçalan recently gave sportswear giant Adidas a branding makeover.

After analyzing Adidas’ branding design, he concluded that the brand’s use of different logos for each of its sub-brands can be confusing for consumers and thus weaken the branding strategy.

8 POSITIONS OF SLEEPING AND THE EFFECTS ON OUR HEALTH

In what position do you sleep most often? It turns out this is a very important question. Getting enough sleep is the most important thing – but did you know that how you sleep can also impact your health?
Sleeping on your back with your arms at your side is generally considered to be the best sleeping position for spine health and it’s good for your neck too, as long as you don’t use too many pillows.
That said, back sleepers tend to snore more than those in any other position and sleep apnea is strongly associated with sleeping on the back.

SMILE TOO MUCH MAY BE BAD FOR US

"Keep smiling" may not be the best piece of advice or coping strategy for some people after all, suggests new research.

The researchers found that smiling frequently may actually make people feel worse if they're sort of faking it — grinning even though they feel down. When people force themselves to smile because they hope to feel better or they do it just to hide their negative emotions, this strategy may backfire.

TED ED: PLAYING AN INSTRUMENT BENEFITS YOUR BRAIN. (video)

When you listen to music, multiple areas of your brain become engaged and active. But when you actually play an instrument, that activity becomes more like a full-body brain workout. What's going on? Anita Collins explains the fireworks that go off in musicians' brains when they play, and examines some of the long-term positive effects of this mental workout.
