A TOUGHT WE SHOULD AVOID

"You must continue to gain expertise, but avoid thinking like an expert." (Denis Waitley)

Thinking like an expert will make us think that we have already master the expertise.

The bad side of thinking like an expert is making us stop continuing to learn more. We will stop our effort to gain more expertise. And it will put us into "no-growth" zone. Because we don't learn new knowledge.

Slow but sure, we will loose our expertise. And not for long, we will become someone not expert.

INNOVATE FASTER OR BETTER?

The other week I met with the leader of a new growth business for a large Asian company. The meeting was miles away from the corporate headquarters. The leader proudly showed me around her office, pointing out how the open, energetic feel compared to the closed-door, corporate nature of headquarters. The young staff certainly seemed to be enjoying itself in the lounge that was well-stocked with booze and snacks.

"So, what does your corporate parent give you?" I asked.

"Absolutely nothing," the leader replied without some degree of pride. "Except funding, of course. Otherwise, they completely leave me alone."

7 MYTHS ABOUT OBESITY

Many widely held beliefs about weight loss don't stand up to scientific scrutiny, say doctors who want to set the public health record straight on myths like the calorie-burning benefits of sex or the value of eating breakfast.

In Wednesday's online issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, U.S. doctors tackle seven obesity-related myths commonly found in the media and material from government agencies as well as six presumptions thought to be true despite a lack of convincing evidence.

ILLNESS WALKS THE RUNWAY

A top fashion designer quarantines a sneezing underling, forcing her to work in a closet. An industry P.R. executive makes colleagues douse their hands with Purell. Germ-phobic magazine editors are powerblasting offices with antiseptic wipes and Lysol.

Such is the dread gripping the fashion world as it prepares for New York Fashion Week, beginning Feb. 7, with a killer flu and a stomach-bug norovirus on the loose.

THE DEADLY SIDE OF CUTE CATS

Sorry to tell you this, but Fluffy is a killer and on a scale that's hard to imagine.

A new report just out from the Smithsonian and the US Fish and Wildlife Service finds outdoor cats are killing billions of animals a year.

The study in the scientific journal Nature Communications says cats kill more wildlife than cars, pesticides, windows or windmills.

BLACKBERRY, REBUILT, AND FIGHT ANOTHER DAY

I’m sorry. I was wrong.

This apology is for the bespectacled student at my talk in Cleveland, and the lady in the red dress in Florida, and anyone else who’s recently asked me about the future of the BlackBerry. I told all of them the same thing: that it’s doomed.

That wasn’t an outrageous opinion. Once dominant, the BlackBerry has slipped to a single-digit percentage of the smartphone market.

NON-JOY THAT MAKE US BETTER

"We could never learn to be brave and patient, if there were only joys in the world." (Helen Keller)

We learn to be brave because there is fear in the world. And because of difficulties, we learn to be patient.

Without the existence of fear and difficulties, we will never know the meaning of bravery, courageous, vigilance, patience, endurance, and persistence.

Something hard and difficult will become a challenge for us to be conquered. And every challenge that we win, will turn us into someone better. Sent from Global Communication Services, USA

DIETERS WHO EAT LUNCH EARLIER LOST MORE WEIGHT

Dieters have long been told not to eat too many calories late in the day.

Now, a new study suggests that dieters who eat lunch early lose more weight than those who eat a late lunch.

"We should start to consider meal timing in addition to calories and meal composition when thinking about weight loss," says the study's senior author Frank Scheer, an associate neuroscientist at Brigham and Women's Hospital and an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.

128 GB APPLE iPAD

In a somewhat uncharacteristic direct response to a competitor, Apple introduced a 128 GB fourth-generation iPad, today, a move that appears to be in response to the Microsoft Surface Pro.

The launch of the 128GB iPad follows Microsoft’s announcing the pricing and availability of Surface Pro tablet. Apple’s high capacity model will begin shipping February 5th, four days before Surface Pro goes on sale.

CUFFLINK FROM THE BULLET JUDI DENCH FIRED IN SKYFALL

SHE might have been given the bullet from the James Bond movies, but a special memento proves Dame Judi Dench is a true jewel in the 007 series crown.

YOUR COMFORT ZONE WILL KILL YOUR PASSION

We all love to be comfortable. Don't we?

Comfort conjures in our minds an idyllic life replete with all the trappings of the good life. When we are in our comfort zones, we feel completely secure and are not afraid of challenges - for they don't exist.

Here at the apex of familiar surroundings, we are the rulers. Everyone and anything bow before us in humble servitude and awe. We want and get what we want without much effort. We can predict what tomorrow portends by just cutting and pasting today.

THE SECRET OF LIFE

Every day goes by like the last
It seems that time flies too fast
I close my eyes and ask it to stop
I look at the clock and another minute has passed
I think to myself…

What would I do if I weren't consumed
Consumed by the world and all that it is
The obligations attached to being successful and popular
What would I do?

YOU CAN SURVIVE, YOU HAVE IT WITHIN YOU

When the ocean empties and the land turns blue,
When my path is blocked and I can't make it through,
When the stars fall down one by one and it rains snow,
When my car breaks down and I can't find a tow,
I will still stand on my own feet proud and tall,
I will get back up on my feet after the hardest fall,
I will find my way home through the foggiest dim path,
I will always have the strength for a smile and a good laugh.

TRIAL AND ERROR

"When we are growing, we experience what is called trial and error." (@LargerThanWords)

When we are growing, we will enter a new stages or phases of life we've never known before.

We all do.

And because it is new, then we don't have any experience yet. That is why trial and error is the song we sing along our journey.

Mistakes are common thing. And it teaches us to be wise.

Bitter experiences make us better.

There is no growing without trial and error. And trial and error make us grow and grow.

SUCCESS IS A MATTER OF DECISION

Since we are talking about our life and our future, inevitably and ultimately we have to make certain decisions. Decisions are about making the right choices (Nobody wants to make the wrong choices anyway). No matter how hard pressed we are, we have to know that we have choices. We just have to decide which course to take. Whichever course we choose, there will be consequences waiting for us, be it good or be it bad. The choices we make today will color the spectrum of our life in the future. We may dream of

LIFE GOES ON

"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life. It goes on." (Robert Frost)

No matter what happens, life goes on.

Life never stops because something bad or good happened.

Life never stops and waits for us because we don't have a job. It never stops because we get up late in the morning.

Life goes on and on. Never wait for us. We are the one who have to catch up with life.

And because no matter what we do, life goes on anyway.
Then choose to do the right thing in life. Do something meaningful. Do something that can help others.

There will be a time in the future, when we look back to our past, and we find out nothing can be regret.

At first blush, they seem like weapons straight from a James Bond film – weapons that are personalized with technology that keeps them from firing if ever they get into the wrong hands.

And the idea of so-called ‘personalized smart guns’ has been kicked around for years but has been slowed by intense suspicion, doubts about feasibility, and pressure tactics.

Now proponents of so-called personalized or smart guns are hoping the nation's renewed attention on firearms following the Newtown school massacre will kick start research and sale of safer weapons.
But despite the Obama administration's promise to 'encourage the development of innovative gun safety technology,' advocates have good reason to be wary.

Never blame ourselves because of the things we haven't achieved yet. See what we have, don't see what we haven't.

And for the rest we haven't achieved yet, we have to keep on fighting for it.

Never give up. Never loose heart.

Enthusiasm do not come from outside. Nothing can trigger our enthusiasm. No one can click our enthusiasm on.

We are the one who has the power to make ourselves enthusiastic. It comes from within. And we are the one who can start it.

Outside factor can only inspire us, but cannot push us to be enthusiastic.

ALIEN-LIKE SKULLS IN A MEXICO CEMETERY

Cristina Garcia Moreno, who worked on the project with Arizona State University, explained that 13 of the 25 skulls found in the Hispanic cemetery had these deformed heads.

Atheists are heavily concentrated in economically developed countries, particularly the social democracies of Europe. In underdeveloped countries, there are virtually no atheists. In a new study to be published in August, I provided compelling evidence that atheism increases along with the quality of life (1).

MAKE "AHA" MOMENTS HAPPEN

Aha moments can spark huge actions... so what if you could have them on demand?

Don Kemper, founder of Healthwise, recalled a critical aha moment 40 years ago. He heard a speech by an Assistant Secretary for Health Education and Welfare, where the official said that the greatest untapped resource in health care was the patient. In that instant, Kemper saw that individuals could (and should) take control of their own health choices, rather than relinquishing those decisions to professionals. That idea became the cornerstone of his organization's mission—helping people make better health decisions.

8 STEPS TO BECOMING THE MOST BEAUTIFUL YOU

8 Steps to Becoming the Most Beautiful YOUWe live in a world of puzzling, often mind blowing opposites. At the same time that we are in the midst of an obesity “epidemic,” we are also surrounded—often relentlessly so—by images of thin, airbrushed perfection in movies, magazines, and television. Actresses and public figures who fail to fit into the thin ideal are criticized and bullied in cruel but unfortunately not unusual ways. Many of the rest of us criticize and bully ourselves when we look at our own reflections in the mirror. Billions of dollars a year are mobilized to help each of us achieve the “perfect” body—continually moving us toward a goal that seems to have no finish line.

Though I identify myself in many ways through the lens of music, there are times when we all want to escape organized sound entirely.

It is more difficult than it seems, unless we are at home where we can more or less control the sounds we're exposed to. Out in public music occurs on somebody else’s terms. The music that accompanies our daily lives provides a soundtrack to either eating, shopping or waiting. It’s a rare restaurant or shop that doesn’t routinely use music to accompany their customer’s experience. Even as I write these words (in a public space) Dolly Parton is unironically singing about her dead-end job.

The most important foods for preventing macular degeneration are ones that are rich in the antioxidants beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, lutein and zeaxanthin ...  plus zinc and omega-3 fats.

A NICKEL ON THE ROAD

Exercising is not one of my favorite pastimes but I know it's good for me. So every day I try to get outside and take a 2-mile walk. Most days I carry a small notebook and pen with me so that I can jot down the random brilliant thoughts that come to me as I stroll around the neighborhood.

A few weeks ago I was rounding a corner about half way through my walk and noticed a nickel in the road. I adjusted my gait so that I stepped on the shiny coin and kept walking.

WHAT IS SUCCESS?

All our lives we have been told that we must work toward something. Whether it be good grades, a career, our goal has always been to make it happen and growing up, we have been groomed to chase the dream. Let's be honest! Nobody's mother ever told them, "Honey I want you to waste away your life watching the grass grow."

I grew up with wanting success just as much as the next person only I thought I knew what the word success meant. I realize now that I had not the slightest clue what success meant.

3 ELEMENTS OF GREAT COMMUNICATION, ACCORDING TO ARISTOTLE

In my nearly 20 years of work in organization development, I've never heard anyone say that a leader communicated too much or too well. On the contrary, the most common improvement suggestion I've seen offered up on the thousands of 360 evaluations I've reviewed over the years is that it would be better if the subject in question learned to communicate more effectively.

What makes someone a good communicator? There's no mystery here, not since Aristotle identified the three critical elements — ethos, pathos, and logos. — thousands of years ago.

Ethos is essentially your credibility — that is, the reason people

Everyone has their own path to follow-their own map for the future. The key is to understand everyone is different and to respect their goals as well as your own.

Do not accept behavior that goes against your beliefs or wishes,

EVERYDAY CREATIVITY

We all marvel at other people's artistic achievements and ingenuity. But most of us fail to nurture our inner innovator. Start living creatively and reap the benefits—including fewer relationship headaches and more fulfilling workdays.

The tattoo artists throughout Russia's prison system have never had lessons in painting technique (nor, apparently, hygiene training). They don't have ink and tools at their disposal. And yet they create entire murals on one another's chests and backs: onion-domed cathedrals, intricate cobwebs, chilly grim reapers. banana sports performanceForget swigging on a sports drink before a workout, eating a banana will give you the same energy boost - and is better for you - claim a team of researchers.

Scientists from North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC) wanted to see whether consuming a carbohydrate sports drink was more beneficial during intense exercise than a simple fruit snack.

However, study author Dr David Nieman told News Medical: “We found that not only was performance the same whether bananas or sports drinks were consumed, there were several advantages to consuming bananas.”

LOVE AND MUSIC IN THEIR HEARTS

For many years as I went about my weekend routine of doing all those chores around our house I would regularly hear the sound of a piano playing and singing in the background. One of our neighbours has always had a love of music and obviously the family enjoyed gathering around the piano on the weekend. The music and singing was never something that was hard to take, in fact I often found myself humming or singing away with a song that I knew well.

Living in a fairly relaxed and quiet suburban area does have many pluses, however, this little bonus of weekend enjoyment was something I looked forwarded too, although at the time I never realised that I did.

WALK IN ANOTHER'S SHOES FIRST

Bill Andrews was a big, awkward, homely guy. He dressed oddly with ill fitting clothes. There were several fellows who thought it smart to make fun of him.

One day, one fellow noticed a small tear in his shirt and gave it a small rip. Another worker in the factory added his bit, and before long there was quite a ribbon dangling.

THE PHILOSOPHY OF A FARMER

""Trying to get without first giving is as fruitless as trying to reap without having sown." (Napoleon Hill)

The philosophy of a farmer is the philosophy we have to remember.

Without sowing, there will be no harvest. It is the law of nature.

If we sow apple, we will reap apple.

If we sow kindness, we will reap kindness.

It is the law of nature.

If we want to get something we like, sow first in the first place. Give first and we will get later.

BERRIES MAY REDUCE HEART ATTACK RISK

Women who ate at least three servings of blueberries and strawberries per week had fewer heart attacks, U.S. and British researchers say.

Senior author Eric Rimm of the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston said blueberries and strawberries were used simply because they are the most eaten berries in the United States.

Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health and the University of East Anglia in England conducted a prospective study among 93,600 women ages 25-42, part of the Nurses' Health Study II. The women completed questionnaires about their diet every four years for 18 years.

COCA COLA TO TACKLE OBESITY FOR 1ST TIME IN TV ADS (video)

Coca-Cola became one of the world's most powerful brands by equating its soft drinks with happiness. Now it's taking to the airwaves for the first time to address a growing cloud over the industry: obesity.

The Atlanta-based company on Monday will begin airing a two-minute spot during the highest-rated shows on CNN, Fox News and MSNBC in hopes of flexing its marketing muscle in the debate over sodas and their impact on public health. The ad lays out Coca-Cola's record of providing drinks with fewer calories and notes that weight gain is the result of consuming too many calories of any kind — not just soda.

THE STRUGGLE

What do butterflies have in common with the human spirit? Meet Maggie, a middle aged wife and mother who was about to find out.

THE PERSONAL GOALS

My son and I had a very lengthy conversation today. Our conversation consisted of many avenues of why this and why that. He seemed angry towards those who have everything and never had to work for anything in their life. He mentioned about how his friends whose wealthy parents give them, cars and money have it so easy. He really does not want to work, he would rather stay home but he does have a job.

He has not set any goals for himself and that bothers me, I guess. I told him that I could only guide him in the right direction but
