CATATAN HARIAN SEORANG PRAMUGARI (in indonesia)

JOY IN THE JOURNEY
If you have ever been discouraged because of failure, please read on.
Far often, achieving what you set out to do is not the important thing. Let me explain.
Two brothers decided to dig a deep hole behind their house. As they were working, a couple of older boys stopped by to watch.
"What are you doing?" asked one of the visitors.
"We plan to dig a hole all the way through the earth!" one of the brothers volunteered excitedly.

LOW-CALORIES DIET DON'T HELP LIFESPAN
Monkeys fed a severely low-calorie diet didn’t live longer than their normal-diet peers, a 23-year study showed, contradicting research that suggests living thin on greatly curtailed food intake extends lifespans.
The study by researchers from the National Institute on Aging sought to address whether diet restrictions had health benefits in rhesus monkeys, long-lived

I THINK YOU'RE WONDERFUL
A famous singer had been contracted to sing at a Paris opera house and ticket sales were booming. In fact, the night of the concert, the house was packed; every ticket had been sold.
The feeling of anticipation and excitement was in the air as the house manager took the stage and said, "Ladies and

NOW GOOGLE PLUS MEANS BUSINESS
Google announced Wednesday that it is integrating features from Google Plus, its large but underutilized social network, with Google Apps, the online document, calendar and spreadsheet service that Google sells to corporations. (It has free versions for consumers.)
The most intriguing feature here is probably the integration of Hangouts, a video chat service for up to 10 people at once, with calendars, e-mail, and documents. It’s still early on, but it’s easy to see how this could be an efficient way to bring workers to a virtual meeting,

THE BRIEF PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE
Death asked Life : "Why does everyone loves you and hates me."
Life replied : "Because I am a beautiful Lie and you are painful Truth."
A Lovely Logic for a beautiful Life.
Never try to maintain relations in your life.
Just try to maintain life in your relations.

HACKS: FAKE SITES KEEP COMPANIES VULNERABLE (video)
Raphael Mudge, founder of Strategic Cyber LLC, a startup company that creates software for "red teams"--independent groups hired to break an organization's security--says firewalls work great. But it's still awfully easy for an attacker to take control of a company's entire network. To prove it, Mudge demonstrated how a hacker can compromise one user's computer by sending a trick email, and from there break into the organization.

STRENGTH OF A MAN
The strength of a man isn't seen in the width of his shoulders.
It is seen in the width of his arms that encircle you.
The strength of a man isn't in the deep tone of his voice.
It is in the gentle words he whispers.
The strength of a man isn't how many buddies he has.
It is how good a buddy he is with his kids.

BEQUEST TO POSTERITY
When an old lady died in the geriatric ward of a hospital near Dundee, Scotland, it was felt that she had left nothing of value. Then the nurses, going through her possessions, found this poem. Its quality so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital. One nurse took her copy to Ireland. The old lady's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the News Magazine of the North Ireland Association for Mental Health.

OOLONG TEA IMPROVES THE METABOLISM OF OUR BODY
Did you know that oolong, black and green teas all come from the very same plant? Like all other true teas oolong tea grows on an evergreen camellia tea tree.
One of the things that makes it different from the other teas is the time of harvesting and preparation of the tea leaves. Because of its harvesting process and the amount of time it is fermented ,oolong tea lies somewhere in between black and green tea.

THE POWER OF WORDS
A speaker was speaking about the power of positive thinking and the power of words.
One of the audience raised his hand and said,
"It's not because I say good fortune, good fortune, good fortune that will make me feel better. Nor will saying bad luck, bad luck, bad luck, make me feel worse. They're only words and, by themselves, have no power."
The speaker replied. "Shut up, you fool, you don¹t understand a thing about this."
The member of the audience was stunned, his face became red and he was about to reply,
"You, son of a..."

A MATTER OF PERSPECTIVE
If you woke up this morning with more health than illness... you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.
If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation... you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

NEIL ARMSTRONG, THE FIRST MAN ON THE MOON, DIES AT 82
When man first harnessed fire, no one recorded it. When the Wright Brothers showed man could fly, only a handful of people witnessed it. But when Neil Armstrong took that first small step on the moon in July 1969, an entire globe watched in grainy black-and-white from a quarter million miles away

MICROSOFT NEW LOGO
Microsoft unveiled a brand-new company logo Thursday morning, and graphic designers have given it a split vote.
While some believe the company has a winner with the new logo’s simple, square design, others say it’s too boring. (You can have your say in the poll at the end of this article.)
Sagi Haviv, who designed logos for the Library of Congress and Armani Exchange, thinks the logo simply isn’t distinctive enough. By opting for a simple array of four colored squares, Haviv says Microsoft missed a big opportunity.

THE COMING GLOBAL TOILET BOOM
Bill Gates, as you've probably heard, wants to reinvent the toilet. The winner of his first Reinvent the Toilet Challenge was a team from the California Institute of Technology that designed a solar-powered toilet that generates hydrogen and electricity. This isn't just a curiosity. The Gates Foundation sees better toilets as key to fighting disease and improving lives; for business, what they represent is a huge potential market. I have come across many writings about entry

WHAT IS LIFE?
What is life? It's a complex formula of making one lift above his capabilities, if one thinks he's capable, or else it's so simple that you don't have to do any thing. Really, it only means two cases: one you dare to stare into the eyes of life, other you are scared of it; you keep away from it's challenge and you don't have the guts to face it.

CLARITY
I took a walk today...
not literally, but I took a stroll through my mind.
I needed to figure out some things,
and I was afraid of what I might find.
Most of my thoughts were just nonsense,
which most of the time makes the best sense.
Now was time for me to stop and think what's really important to me.
Numerous thoughts gathered... most intense.

NEW DIET COKE PACKAGING
Makes Permanent Limited-Edition Design Featuring Oversize 'D,' 'K'
Diet Coke is making a permanent change to its packaging for the first time in more than five years.
Beginning Sept. 1, the brand will switch to a design introduced last fall as a limited-edition package. The design, created by Turner Duckworth, features a section of the Diet Coke logo, cropped to prominently feature the "D" and the 'k.' The can's color scheme, red and black on a silver background remains the same. The packaging design only impacts the brand's cans, not bottles.
Kerry Tressler, a spokeswoman for the brand said the cropped logo is coming back "by popular demand."

STORIES
We all have our stories; intimate stories about our lives that we long to share. Stories about those things that have dearly touched us and stories about things that have cruelly torn us apart; stories about honor, stories about despair.
Our stories are about what happens to us, within us, around us. Our daily joy, grief, the silly times, the lonely times. Some of our stories are about that simple moment in our lives that change us forever. And some are about the significant moments that we wish we could do over.

50 YEARS OF MOVIE SHADES (video)
Here at Brow Beat we believe that eyewear design is a crucial element in the success of a film. So we very much enjoyed the supercut below of the best movie sunglasses since 1962. It opens, appropriately, with Rowdy Roddy Piper in John Carpenter's sci-fi classic They Live, and seems to include pretty much every iconic pair of shades since Cool Hand Luke. (I was particularly pleased to see Rufus, time-traveling buddy of Bill and Ted.)

MY SOUL
We all live in a world where we make our own journey... toward a place that has always existed in our minds; a place where a few have actually been but many still are trying to find. "I am home" some may say, but a home is an abstract concept of the reality we try to create.

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO LEAD, READ
When David Petraeus visited the Harvard Kennedy School in 2009, one of the meetings he requested was with author Doris Kearns Goodwin. Petraeus, who holds a PhD in International Relations from Princeton, is a fan of Team of Rivals and wanted time to speak to the famed historian about her work. Apparently, the great general (and current CIA Director) is something of a bibliophile.

FISH OIL IS HEALTHY
Fish oil contains a large amount of vitamin F. If you never heard of that vitamin before, you aren't alone. It is one of the newer classifications and contains what used to be essential fatty acids. There are also two different categories, the Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. Fish oil contains the Omega-3 fatty acid.
Most of Americans diets are heavily Omega-6 fatty acids. The ideal balance between Omega-6 and Omega-3 should be a 2 to 1 ratio. Yet, in the American diet, the ratio balance is as

YOU'RE THE RESULT OF YOURSELF
Don't blame anyone, never complain of anyone or anything
Because basically you have made of your life what you wanted.
Accept the difficulties of edifying yourself
And the worth of starting to correct your character.
The triumph of the true man arises from the ashes of his mistakes.

GAMING WORLD CAN BE CRUEL TO WOMEN
Hi. My name is Elisa, and I am a gamer and a geek. I’m at the computer writing this in a Star Trek T-shirt, in celebration of the recent Mars Curiosity rover landing. I’ve been a gamer for as long as I can remember, having had a Nintendo Power magazine thrust into my hands as soon as I could sound out the words on the page in order to be my older brother’s co-pilot. Since then, I have developed a fierce love of games, some of which I defend with the ferocity of a mother protecting her cubs. I have a tattoo of a Trivial Pursuit pie on my right hip. My haircut resembles one of my favorite characters, Lilith, from Borderlands. You can’t tell me Revolution X wasn’t amazing. You just can’t.

GENERATION APNEA
This is the tale of how an Australian man with a vacuum cleaner fixed a mistake in evolution.
It begins in the late 1970s. Colin Sullivan is a physician in the respiratory unit at Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. There, he treats patients who have problems breathing. The most common complaint, by far, is snoring. Sullivan knows better than most doctors in his field that snoring is often a sign of a serious disorder known as sleep apnea. The disorder had been identified only about a decade earlier.

THE CREATOR OF "E.T." DIES AT 87
Special effects master Carlo Rambaldi (September 15, 1925 – August 10, 2012), creator of E.T., died in Italy on Friday. Rambaldi won Oscars for best visual effects for Alien and E.T., and a special achievement award for his work on the 1977 King Kong.
Rambaldi’s job was to take the fantastical visions of others and find a way to bring them to life, and at this he was a virtuoso. His depictions of mutilated dogs for the Italian film A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin (1971) were so convincing that they landed director Lucio Fulci in court on charges of animal cruelty. Fulci was saved from two years in prison when Rambaldi demonstrated his animatronic creatures in court, showing that no animals had been harmed.

JAMES BOND AT 50
James Bond is 50 this year, except that he's not. He's already turned 60. The films are celebrating 50 years of world domination, supreme profitability and major cultural impact, but Bond, James Bond, first appeared on paper at Goldeneye, Ian Fleming's house in Jamaica, on or soon after January 15, 1952.
Fleming's lover Ann Charteris was about to become Mrs Fleming. She was pregnant and Fleming needed money quickly. He was also trying to take his mind off his terror of matrimony.
The world's most popular spy, the debonair and sexually promiscuous 007, was partly born out of fear and sexual frustration.

THINSPIRATION: THE SOCIAL MEDIA'S DARK SIDE
The images are everywhere: skin and bone, protruding hips, and tips how on how to eat less. And it is everywhere on social media; it’s called “thinspiration.” It’s a teenage underworld promoting eating disorders that has gone viral on Facebook, Tumblr, and Pinterest.
16 year old Meagan Gunnip encounters thinspiration, or “thinspo” for short, every day. She’s anorexic. After seeing skinny photos of her friends on Facebook and endless shots of unrealistically tiny women online, she decided she wanted to be slim down, fast.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S NOTE TO SAVE A SOLDIER'S LIFE
A friend at the Foundation for the National Archives recently invited me on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Archives’ vaults—certainly the best two hours I’ve spent all summer. It was national treasure heaven—George Washington’s handwritten First Inaugural Address, Annie Oakley’s letter to President McKinley volunteering to muster a battalion of lady sharpshooters for the Spanish-American War, the $7.2 million check that bought Alaska in 1868—but the prize by far was a brief note scrawled at the bottom of a sheaf of legal papers.

The media sure has: In the past two weeks, Reuters, the Atlantic, ABC News, and Fox (among others) have all reported on the colored tape, which is sold by a company called Kinesio. According to the product's website, the tape is designed to “facilitate the body’s natural healing process while allowing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion.”
The press has questioned this claim, and rightly so. Studies of the tape’s efficacy suggest that there’s no proof that this particular tape is

THE PAST
The past; the place for which we recall memories, what some call experience, in essence, what shapes who we are. But for some people, the past is quicksand, and people fall into it, and never leave it. Whether good or bad, what has been done is just that, done. Nothing people say or do can change the finality of those experiences, thoughts, or actions.
The past is for learning from, to look back and to take from it all that is plausible. It is not for dwelling and considering the "what ifs" and "might have beens".

THE TEETH OF THE DOG
One saint called San Francisco (in Spanish) was walking in the meadows with some kids. It was a wonderful, clear day, with all the flowers blooming, and a nice smell on the air. But gradually the kids started to smell something rotten. It might be a dead animal.
As they walked, the smell became stronger and they found out it was a dead dog by the side of the path.
One of the kids said, "It's all rotted."
Another kid said, "The intestines are all out."
Still another kid added, "There are ants coming out of the hollows of his eye."

ACAI BERRIES LOWER THE BAD CHOLESTEROL LEVEL
There are many claims about the acai berry, scientific studies now confirm the claims about acai juice and cholesterol are true. The acai berry is a rich source of monounsaturated fat and fiber, both known to lower the bad cholesterol levels in the body. Not only does it help reduce cholesterol, it also provides anti-inflammatory relief and powerful anti-oxidants.
While the study on cholesterol used acai pulp and animals as their test subjects, the translation potential for humans is great when you consider all the facts known on the chemical composition of the acai berry. In the study, the animals received a high-fat diet. Half of the animals

MERGING SPIRITUALITY AND CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY
The psychology graduate student ran a wooden stick across the edge of a Tibetan Buddhist singing bowl on Tuesday and asked the five homeless young men sitting in front of him to listen to the undulating sound, and to raise their hands when they could no longer hear it. One by one hands went up, until well after the sound had seemed to dissipate.

THE NUN WHO BROKE INTO THE NUCLEAR SANCTUM
Sister Megan Rice, 82 |
She has been arrested 40 or 50 times for acts of civil disobedience and once served six months in prison. In the Nevada desert, she and other peace activists knelt down to block a truck rumbling across the government’s nuclear test site, prompting the authorities to take her into custody.
